5 tips to stay active while travelling

For some people, going on a trip means letting go of your daily routine and putting aside activities, such as working out. This way of disconnecting is VERY okay and some people really need it! For my part, training has been part of my daily life for several years and it is important for me that this routine is maintained even when travelling! The time I take to train every day not only allows me to have a little time to myself, but it also allows me to relieve my stress and feel energized for the rest of the day.

So if like me, it is important for you to continue moving even when travelling, this article is for you! Here I offer you my 5 tips to stay active while travelling.

1 - Bring a yoga mat

The only equipment you will need is a yoga mat! I agree it's not the thing that takes up the least amount of space, but I really think it's essential. For my part, mine fits perfectly in my suitcase and does not take THAT much space. Also, if you take the plane, yoga mats are usually quite light. There are also thinner, foldable mats designed specifically for travel.

2 – Find no-equipment workouts videos

We agree that you won't be carrying your 10 and 20 pounds in your suitcase! If you travel in a car and you have enough room, then it’s great! Otherwise, I recommend that you create a list of no-equipment workouts on Youtube. We don’t always realize it, but our own body weight is very efficient! If you don't think you have access to WIFI, there are several applications that allow you to download Youtube videos directly on your cellphone (Free Video Downloader Plus, McTube, iTube, etc.). You will be able to download them before leaving and you will have access to them throughout your trip, even without the network! For Youtube videos, I recommend Madfit, Rebecca Louise and ClassFit Sugar.

3 - Do activities that make you move

Being an outdoor enthusiast, every time I go on a trip, I look up to what activities I could do that will fulfill my need to MOVE and connect with nature! If you love it too, I suggest you plan a few days (or just mornings or afternoons) of outdoor activities (kayaking, biking, hiking, etc.)!

4 - Choose a moment

Our days are often very busy when we go on a trip. If you want to continue training, you will need to pick a moment. For my part, I reduce my training time to 30 minutes instead of an hour. I guarantee you that 30 minutes is easily found in a day! I always wake up earlier than my boyfriend and I use this time to workout. I suggest that you do your workouts at a time that suits you the most without forgetting that it should not be a "chore", but rather an activity that you do for the pleasure of moving!

5 - Bring protein snacks

My final tip is to bring yourself snacks rich in protein and carbohydrates to recover well after physical activity! I never go on a trip without my Vegan Pro that I take every morning, after my workouts. You can also bring protein bars, granola, nuts or pre-made energy balls!

I hope you find these tips helpful to stay active while travelling! Again, if training isn't a part of your travels, that's fine too. The goal of a trip is to be able to relax in your own way! Have a nice trip!
