Top 5 Tips To Become a Smoothie Bowl Pro

For the past 10 years, I’ve made a LOT of smoothie bowls — I even wrote a recipe book about them!
So if I can give you my best tips for getting THAT perfect, thick and creamy texture, here they are!

1- Prioritize frozen fruit
No one is going to send you to smoothie bowl jail if you add a fresh fruit to your frozen ones!
But just know that it will affect the texture. The more frozen fruit you use, the thicker your smoothie bowl will be.

2- Add at least one creamy ingredient
Banana, mango and avocado are great options. Yogurt, silken tofu, nut butters and protein powders also work really well. Personally, I use Raw Nutritional Protein, which comes in several flavors as well as an unflavored version.

3- Go easy on the liquid
This is probably THE secret to a thick smoothie bowl: use as little liquid as possible!
Add just enough to get the blades moving. And if you need more, add it one tablespoon at a time. It’s much easier to add more than to take it away!

4- Be patient
Making a smoothie bowl usually takes a little more work than making a drinkable smoothie. Stop the blender, scrape down the sides, push the ingredients toward the blades… and repeat as needed!

5- Use your blender’s tamper (if you have one)
It’s your best friend for pushing the ingredients toward the blades. And if your blender doesn’t have one, add the liquid ingredients first, directly to the bottom, then add the frozen ingredients on top.

6- Bonus tip
If your fruit is completely frozen — hard as a rock! — put it in the blender while you’re making your coffee or taking a shower. Letting it sit out for about 10 minutes will help it soften slightly… and make life much easier for your blender (and for you)!
