What to do during a snowstorm
What to do during a snowstorm
When you live in northern countries like Canada, you are often confronted with snowstorms. These storms will generally mean that we have to stay indoors. Most schools will be closed, and some employers will ask to stay home. If the snowstorm hits on a Saturday, even better! No need to cancel school or work.
In this article, I want to share small activities to do during a snowstorm. I divided the activities in two, whether we have children or not.
With children :
Play outside
Nothing prevents us from playing in the snow, even if it is unsafe to take the car. We dress warmly and go out to make a snowman, slide, make a fort, have a snowball fight, etc. There is nothing more satisfying as an activity than laughing with the children!
Drink a good hot chocolate
After the snowball fight, we dry the snow suits, and we prepare a tasty hot chocolate. Have fun adding marshmallows, whipped cream, and a candy cane. In short, let your creativity run wild.
Spend the day in pyjamas
Nothing is more special for children than spending the whole day in pyjamas. They will feel like it's Christmas!
Do crafts
For a change, make a craft with a snowstorm theme. Create thematic crafts: Snowmen with paper plates, reindeer and bears with cardboard paper, drawings of enchanted forests, etc. There are so many ideas!
Sans children :
Stay comfy
Like children, adults also love to spend the day in comfy clothes. Not getting dressed to go to work makes the day even more special! Wear your most comfortable joggers and sweater.
Listen to movies and series
Finally, you can take the time to listen to all the movies and series you have on your list without thinking about the tasks you must do (since you are forced to stay home). Make yourself comfortable, put several cushions and blankets at your disposal and let the marathon begin!
Cooking
Cook the most comforting and tasty recipes such as cookies, brownies, and hot drinks, but also comforting meals such as stew, lasagna or even a fondue! If you don't have all the ingredients, you can dress warmly for the storm and take a short walk to the grocery store.
Play board games
Finally, with a small glass of wine or hot chocolate, take out your favourite games and play! My husband and I love to play board games and don't take the time to do it often enough. A snowstorm is an excellent reason to spend hours playing!
Of course, cooking, watching movies and playing board games also apply if you have children.
With that, good storm and above all, be careful!
